Today I'm going to go over again the qualities of a good domain name. I will list 5 qualities but will digress and look really a bit deeper over one of the qualities that I list.

When you want a name to use in your business website (online business), you have literally to do some research. You don't just pick any name. The name chosen is an important factor which determines the success or failure of any website.

5 Qualities of Good Domain Name

1. The domain name is descriptive of your service or product.

2. It is much better if the name includes your keywords.

3. Choose a .com domain name first then park the other extensions.

4. A short name is better than one that is long and ugly.

5. The domain name should be unique and which does not infringe other trade mark names.

There are many ways you can find a domain name to register. As I have mentioned on this site, the type of top level domain name extension is another important factor to put into account. Some of the sources just to mention a few where to check for names to register as domain names are:

1. Dictionary.

2. Words used in advertisements.

3. Expired names.

4. Domain name forums and eBay.

Descriptive Qualities of A Domain Name

Let us now look more closely on the descriptive quality of a good domain name.

To achieve this let us do a small activity – what I'd call "domain name storming"

Grab a pen and piece of paper.

Now, start by writing any word or phrase you think that describes your product or business.

• What product or service do you offer?

• Who are your current customers?

• Who is your primary target market?

• How do your clients/customers describe you?

• What feeling does your product/service leave on them?

You might want to talk to your customers, friends, take a survey use your thesaurus to derive more accurate answers or get more ideas as to how others describe your business.

Carry Out Domain Name Storming

Carry out your "domain name storming" activity and come up with as long a list as you could possibly have. I would point out that at this point try as much as you can to only use human raw intelligent to combine this list, (Use of domain name software and keywords research will come later).
