How to find expired Domain names

Expired domains are another great way to earn money using domains. These are domains that have been purchased or owned previously and were not renewed at the end of the year or whatever the purchase term was. Rarely are domains given for life. They usually have to be renewed at the end of the term or they become expired and after a certain length of time, they become available for resale.

There are some advantages to using expired domains. These domains were viable which means they have repeat traffic attached to them. Purchasing these domains and then reselling them or just purchasing them yourself can help to increase the amount of initial traffic the site gets. This makes expired domain names very valuable.

To find quality expired domain names you can do a lot of search on the web trying out various domains which is incredibly time consuming and does not give you worthwhile results or you can use a search engine that is designed specifically to find expired domain names within a given keyword.

You can also use these search engines to choose what type extension you are looking for. Therefore, if you are interested in only the .com extension or the .net or both you can search for the domains quickly and easily within those extensions. You can even look up entire lists without having to search for specific keyword. Then you can locate all the expired domain names on a particular letter of the alphabet or particular number.

There may also be multiple searches available so you may want to look around in order to gain a wider variety of options when it comes to expired domains.

How to find expired domain names using software tools.

There are also software applications that allow you to search through and find expired domain names on a daily basis and receive updated lists as the domains expire. Some of these searches are free of charge others may cost a fee depending on which plan and features you want. Most software may cost you an initial fee in order to obtain or gain advanced features.

You can use software or online searches in order to find expired domain names that are available. There are some that provide you with results in real time and others that provide you with results on a daily basis. Many of them are either going to provide you with the date that the domains are due to expire or the date they expired.

You can then simply purchase the domain names that have expired and have the benefit of getting the traffic that the particular domain name in question was already generating or the high page rank that come with it. You can read more as to why you might want to register expired domain names.

Register Expired Domain Name

June 30, 2008 by Joseph Nyamache · Leave a Comment

I will briefly discuss four main reasons why you might want to search and register expired domain name.

Thousands of available names.

The first but obvious overlooked fact is that thousands of names expire each day. With the economy in the brink of a recession, thousands of businesses and entrepreneurs have been forced to either close down or abandon their plans and ambitions. This includes their online activities.

As a result, most of the domain names that were previously owned by such businesses and entrepreneurs have not been renewed and continuously became available for renewal as expired domain names.

As a consequence there is a large pool of expired domain names that you can choose from.

Page Rank.

As you very well might now, you can register a domain name for a given time span ranging from one year up to a maximum of ten years. Within this time span most domain names gain a number of links pointing back to them.

Depending on the promotion level or natural nature, some of these expired domain names may have gained a given number of back links. The more links and the better the quality of this back links the higher the PR for the domain name in question.

You might want to register a domain name with a higher page rank to help boost the amount of organic search engine traffic it attracts. You can use the following tool to check for the page rank of a domain name.

Traffic.

Depending on the previous owners activity some of these expired domain names that have been in existence for more than a year are most likely to be generating their own direct and search engine traffic.

Even though the domain name is expired, you might be surprised at the amount of traffic they still attract and command. You can use Alexa traffic tool to check for the traffic level of an expired domain name before you buy it.

Qualities of a good domain name.

Lastly, some of these expired domain names already posses all or a mix of what makes a given name to be considered a quality domain name. You can read more about the qualities of a good domain name here.

In conclusion therefore, before you register a domain name, you might want to go through the list of available expired domain names to search and see if you can find a name with all or any of the four characteristics we have discussed above. Free Domain Name Tutorial

Let us finish off this discussion about qualities of a good domain name.

We started off by looking at domain name storming,

Then we went on to talk about keyword research

Today we want to bring together all the six qualities of good domain names by taking a simple tutorial to help you fully understand and comprehend why it’s essential for you to choose a good name.

Of course if you have been following along you will notice that all along I have made the assumption that you already have a product or service in mind that you want to promote online.

So now the question today is:

  • Do you register your name as a brand or using rich keywords?

Brand – on our first discussion we talked about the need to go out and talk to your clients or potential clients about the product or service in question. That really has to do with brand research.

Keywords Research – We also had a discussion in which we saw the importance of using quality software’s to peak into and see what potential customers are typing into the search engines as they conduct their daily searches.

Today the dilemma is, so what next? Do you take a brand strategy in registering your domain or do you want to optimize your website name by using keywords in your domain name?

This is a question that has raised an heated debate over time and there is no clear cut answer. My personal opinion is that you should ask yourself:

  • For what purpose are you building this website for?

Based on your products or services, do you want repeat visitors to come regularly to your site even several times a day? If your answer is yes then you will be better off with a short memorable brand name.

Or do your products or services require a onetime purchase or within a predefined time set? If you answered yes, then probably a keyword rich domain name will help you drive visitors from the search engines.

You may also want to note that a brand name or a keyword rich domain is not just enough by itself to guarantee you visitors to your site. There are also other factors to consider as you develop and market your website online.

Here is a complete domain name tutorial to wind up our discussion.

Keyword Research on Domain Names

June 16, 2008 by Joseph Nyamache · 1 Comment

Today we are going to look at keyword research.

Allow me to remind you that on one of our previous posts, we looked at what we called domain name storming, where we saw the need to do an extensive manual research to come up with the kind of phrases that best describe your business, product or service.

The aim, as we pick up and continue today is to come up with the right word, term or phrase that we can use to registers a good domain name.

From our previous discussion about domain name storming , we saw that part of the 5 qualities of a good domain name is that – When it comes to domain names, it’s much better to include your keywords on your domain name.

From that post;

If you indeed carried out the manual search and asked yourself all the questions that came up on your mind, If you actually took the initiative to approach your friends and clients to help you out, then there is one thing for sure you must have realized by now.

  • Manual keyword research is time consuming, boring and not quite effective

But that is not to say that it is a worthless activity to do. You still need to carry out such an activity in order to full comprehend and gauge all the factors and qualities that make up a good domain name.

Another effective way that can help you come up with a good domain name is to carry out a keyword research. The reason why you need to do an effective keyword research is because there are powerful software’s out there that were designed for this specific job and can help you towards that direction.

Using effective keyword software to perform your keyword research will have the following advantages, just but to mention just a few:

  • It will enable you to build a list of keywords quick, fast and easy.
  • It will enable you to build a list of keyword phrases for your service or product.
  • It will enable you to identify niche markets relating to your product or service.
  • It will also enable you to save time and trouble of doing a clumsy manual search.

Once you come up with a list of phrases and keywords generated by keyword software, the next thing you’d want to do is compare your new list with the old list from our previous discussion.

On our next post we will pick up from here and see how you can incorporate the remaining qualities of a good domain name so that you too can come up with an irresistible name that will take your internet business to the next level.

Gold Rush Scramble for Expired Domain Names

June 15, 2008 by Joseph Nyamache · Leave a Comment

Do you ever wonder:
What happens to expired domain names?

This article is going to help you master the domain names expiring process and how you can benefit from the quantum list of expired domain names that become available each and every single day.

In order to understand what happens when registering and renewing domain names, it may help first of all to know the structure and composition of a domain name.

A domain name is made up of two parts.

This is the part that is .com or .org or .net. There are many more of those extensions now that the Internet has been around for awhile. There are even top level domains that are country specific such as .fr for France. In fact, your country may have one too! Why not check around and find out for sure.

This is called the sub-domain. It is either the name that you make up or it can be the expired name that someone else made up. Shortly, we will see how you can get hold of such valuable names.

All the domain names are recorded in a database and no two can be the same. That is why once you choose a great domain name, it’s your to use and none other!

Unless of course…keep reading! The Catch!

When registering a domain name, you are only entitled to use it for the period of time that you choose to pay for. That period of time maybe a year, two years or 10 years.

Once you let the fees lapse for that period, the domain name will expire and it will no longer be yours to use. Most registrars allow a domain name to be registered for a period ranging from one year to ten years.

Expired Domain Names Cycle, How it works

There are stages that a domain name goes through from the time a given name is registered to the moment it’s deemed as having expired. The first stage in this process is the “expiry date”.

As discussed above, a domain name is registered for however long a period you decide on and are allowed to be registered by law. When the domain name is due to be registered again and is not, that date is called the ‘expiry date’.

The next stage is when the registration period is up and you have the choice of renewing or not. An accredited registrar will typically send you a reminder well in advance of the upcoming expiration. During this time you only pay the standard fee charged for domain name renewal.

If you decide not to re-register your domain name, you will typically have a few days in which you can change your mind. Normally you will have a grace period that lasts about 40 days. Some registrars charge an extra fee if the name is renewed during this period.

When the 40 days are over, the domain name enters the redemption period. Be sure to pay handsomely in the name of fees if you change your mind to renew the expiring domain name at this stage.

After about 75 days since the expiry date, if you still do not want the domain name; it now depends on the registrar what happens next. They may delete the domain name or they can hold it for awhile before deleting it.

The domain name may show as being registered to the “unpaid names” department and stay in that status until it is finally deleted. Once the domain name gets to this point, it is almost ready to be re-registered.

That can cause a stir if the name is particularly valuable. Sometimes names are off the market for years and when they become available, people can get very excited at the prospect of getting the rights to that name.

How to Snatch Expired Domain Names for yourself

Is there a given domain name that you’ve set your eyes on and know that for sure it would be the perfect domain name for your business? If so, you may be in the company of many others who are keeping an eye on the same name as well.

Once such a names is available for re-registering, if you are not quick, someone else may just grab the name. Here is how not to let that happen to you:

The best way of ensuring a chance to snatch one of those desirable names is knowing when it is about to be put back into the available domain names pool before others know about them as well.

There are sources that will provide that useful information. There are some that will tell you which ones have expired in the past 24 hours. This information is varied. Some require you to be a member of their site. Others provide the service free.

If you are planning to look for names that are getting ready to expire there are several sites that you can use for this as well. This does not mean they will not be renewed, but if you find a couple you want to keep an eye on, this is a good way of doing so.

There are sites that keep track of such details and you can use them to find out what is available. As with the expired names registry, some are free and some are paid memberships. In addition, you can also get a list of all the domain names that are going to be expiring on a certain date.

It is rarely possible to be able to get to know a domain name that is about to expire without using some type of tools and software. That is why there is a whole new niche dedicated just to helping people to learn all about the secrets of how to find expired domain names that they want.

Although they are not 100% when it comes to getting the best expired domain names for you, they have a better chance than you having to do it by manually trying to be the first one discover when those names becomes available or when one is deleted.

These companies typically charge a fee. What this basically means is that you are paying for a chance to be among the first to get to know as the names become available for re-registration. If they do not get any of the names you wanted within a specific time, you are always able to bail out.

Regardless of how you get the name, you will have to keep in mind; you do not own the domain name. You are only allowed to use the name as long as you pay the renewal fees. It does not matter that you thought up the name. You still are subject to paying fees to use the name.

Where Money is involved:

Because of the fee and money aspect involved, it’s always wise to know the previous owner of the name and what they used that name for. That is especially true if you are planning to use the name for a brand new site.

It is also handy to know if that is a domain name that has been out of circulation for a while or has been banned by search engines and such valuable information.

In conclusion, keep in mind, your domain name usually says something specific about your site. If you want to keep the domain name you chose make sure you pay the renewal fees on time. This will keep your name from expiring and being picked up by someone else.

Domain Name Storming

June 9, 2008 by Joseph Nyamache · Leave a Comment

Today I’m going to go over again the qualities of a good domain name. I will list 5 qualities but will digress and look really a bit deeper over one of the qualities that I list.

5 Qualities of good domain name.

  1. The domain name is descriptive of your service or product.
  2. It is much better if the name includes your keywords.
  3. Choose a .com domain first then park the other extensions.
  4. A short name is better than one that is long and ugly like mine.
  5. It is unique and does not infringe on other trade mark names.

Let us now look more closely on the descriptive quality.

To achieve this let us do a small activity – what I’d call "domain name storming"

Grab a pen and piece of paper.

Now, start by writing any word or phrase that you think of that describe your product or business.

  • What product or service do you offer?
  • Who are your current customers?
  • Who is your primary target market?
  • How do your clients/customers describe you?
  • What feeling does your product/service leave on them?

You might want to talk to your customers, friends, take a survey use your thesaurus to derive more accurate answers or get more ideas as to how others describe your business.

Carry out your "domain name storming" activity and come up with as long a list as you could possibly have. I would point out that at this point try as much as you can to only use human raw intelligent to combine this list. (Use of software and keywords will come later)

On my next post we will look at how to do a keyword research for your product or service. We will then see how you can combine your keywords with your raw research in order to come up with a good domain name.

Till then, have a good day.

Quit wasting your time on domain names

If you are really very lucky then you can sell your domain name and hit the jack pot. But as is always the case, chances of that happening is slim to negative infinity.

But I’m not here to discourage you, if you still believe, are inspired by and still imagine that you can be the next guy to sell one of your parked domain names for millions then go for it!

At this age and time, cyber squatter still exist on the internet, at this age of social bookmarking and social networking, it makes me wonder. They are in the business of buying names for speculative purposes. They think and hope that some big multi – corporation will somehow buy that name for a fortune.

Seriously speaking, I think it’s only a mismanaged, vision-less and outdated company that should do that. If you think I’m wrong or probably that I should go see my doctor for mental checkup, think for a moment, go through the list of the top 100 and for that matter 500 websites on Alexa rank.

Now tell me, how many of those companies bought their names? Did Google, Yahoo, Myspace, Flickr, Squidoo, and all those names I see there. Maybe I’m wrong, tell me did they their names?

Well managed, futuristic, trend changers and upcoming companies somehow have a way of theirs in coming up with unique domain names. It’s the average guys who know how to waste their money buying good but useless name that they have no idea on how to use them.

The power is not in the name, it’s in what you can be able to do with it.
